    In Memoriam

Francis Hansen & Martin is saddened to announce the passing of our friend and partner Jerry Martin.

Jerry had a distinguished legal career and was a skilled trial lawyer. After his arrival in Oregon in 1969, Jerry spent one year as law clerk for the Honorable Thomas H. Tongue, Justice of the Oregon Supreme Court. At the conclusion of the clerkship, Jerry then became an associate with the Portland firm of Dezendorf, Spears and Lubersky (now Lane Powell, et al.) After approximately two years with that firm, Jerry moved to Bend, Oregon, preferring to practice in a smaller community.

In Bend, Jerry joined the firm of Gray, Fancher, Holmes and Hurley where he spent nine years, concentrating his practice on litigation. In 1980, he joined Win Francis and created Francis & Martin. Jerry and Win Francis remained a two-attorney firm until 2003, when they were joined by Martin E. Hansen. During the course of his career, Jerry tried cases in nearly every county in the State of Oregon, the U.S. District Court, and appeals in Oregon’s appellate courts and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Jerry was a true gentleman and his plain spoken style won the respect of the judges and attorneys he worked with over the course of his career. His kindness, intelligence and sense of humor will be dearly missed.
